Racism exists largely because people fear what they do not understand, and that fear often gets passed down through families, communities, and even institutions. Many people grow up hearing stereotypes or seeing biased behavior long before they are old enough to question it. Over time, these ideas become “normal” to them, even when they are harmful. Racism can also come from insecurity. When people feel threatened economically, socially, or culturally, they sometimes look for someone to blame, and race becomes an easy target.
Another reason racism continues is lack of exposure. When people have little real interaction with those who are different from them, it becomes easier to believe false narratives. Media, history, and social systems can also reinforce racist thinking by showing certain groups in negative or limited ways. Unfortunately, power and privilege play a role too, because racism can benefit some people by maintaining control or a sense of superiority.
At its core, racism is not about logic or truth; it is about learned behavior and emotional reactions. The hopeful part is that what is learned can be unlearned. Education, honest conversations, and meaningful relationships across cultures slowly challenge racist beliefs and replace them with understanding and empathy.

think the biggest reason is insecurity. People feel threatened by things they don’t understand or feel they are somehow inferior to, or things they feel are challenges to their success. Categorizing groups of people based on identifiable physical characteristics then applying broad overgeneralized stereotypes makes it easy to identify and contain the enemy without the need to spend a lot of time thinking about it.

There is actually no direct answer to this question though. A lot of people are racist or become racist due to various reasons. For some they might have heard negative things about a particular group of people, and due to this they become racist, while some might have had a negative experience with a few, and this has completely changed their way of thinking towards a particular race.
