FOMO in cryptocurrency means “Fear of Missing Out.” It’s when people rush to buy a coin just because it’s pumping, without doing proper research. Most times, they buy high and later regret when the price crashes.
Here’s how FOMO shows up in crypto:
You see a coin rising fast and feel like you’re missing out on easy money.
You panic buy without checking what the project is about.
You enter too late — usually at the top — and when the price drops, you’re stuck.
You sell in loss, then repeat the cycle again with another coin.
During the 2021 bull run, many Nigerians jumped on Shiba Inu and other meme coins out of FOMO. Some made money, but many bought when hype was high and lost 60%–90% of their capital.
If everybody on Twitter or WhatsApp groups is screaming “Buy now,” calm down and breathe. That’s probably the wrong time to enter. FOMO is a trap — don’t let hype control your wallet. Study the coin first. Learn to wait.
Takeaway: In crypto, patience protects your capital. Don’t chase pumps. Let logic win over emotion.

When it comes to cryptocurrency, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) happens when people get anxious about missing out on a good deal, so they jump in to buy a coin just because everyone else is or the price is skyrocketing. Instead of taking the time to do their homework, they make decisions based on hype, what’s trending on social media, or just the overall frenzy in the market. This usually ends up with them buying when prices are at their highest and then losing money when the market eventually calms down. The savvy investors steer clear of FOMO by sticking to their game plan, doing their research, and being patient.
