This is all due to knowledge problems. No one told me about finances and they didn’t tell me how to do it right, but I still managed to realize it myself and I never had any debts. However, people from very poor countries want the best for themselves and therefore they get into debt in order to buy some expensive thing that they did not have and even then the situation only starts to get worse.

There are many potential reasons why individuals may find themselves in ongoing debt situations, including:

    • Living beyond one’s means – Spending more than one earns through lifestyle choices and habits. Not budgeting effectively.
    • Unexpected emergencies – Medical bills, job loss, car repairs that force relying on credit without savings.
    • Predatory lending – Loans with extremely high interest rates trap borrowers in cycles of mounting interest payments.
    • Poor financial literacy – Lack of knowledge about managing credit, loans, interest, budgeting wisely.
    • Irresponsible use of credit cards – Racking up card debt through overspending without repaying. Treating credit like free money.
    • Job loss or reduced income – A loss of wages makes it very difficult to service existing debts.
    • Lack of access to affordable credit – Those with lower incomes may be forced to turn to subprime lenders.
    • Exploitation or fraud – Dishonest lenders or debt collectors violate laws to extract payments.
    • Compulsive shopping habits – Addictive spending and impulse purchases well beyond needs.
    • Unexpected life events – Illness, divorce, family needs can upend finances unexpectedly.
    • Systemic income inequality – Stagnant wages simply lag behind costs, making debt all but inevitable for some.

The reasons for long-term debt are complex and multifaceted. Judgment should be withheld, while compassion and understanding extended to those facing such struggles. Professional guidance from accredited non-profits can often help identify constructive paths forward.

Several factors contribute to why people continue to be in debt. Firstly, unexpected financial emergencies, such as medical bills or car repairs, can strain budgets and lead to borrowing. Additionally, stagnant wages in relation to the rising cost of living make it challenging to cover basic expenses without resorting to credit. Poor financial literacy and lack of budgeting skills can lead to mismanagement of funds and reliance on debt to bridge gaps. Consumerism and societal pressure to maintain a certain lifestyle can drive individuals to overspend and accumulate debt. Furthermore, student loans and mortgage payments burden many, especially when education and housing costs are high. Lastly, some individuals face systemic barriers such as limited access to quality education and job opportunities, which can contribute to their ongoing debt struggles. In sum, a combination of unexpected events, economic factors, personal choices, and systemic issues often perpetuate people’s indebtedness.

While for some it might because of lifestyle inflation, buying what they can’t afford, by doing this you get to take loans and debts to satisfy your material urge, this is also called keeping up with the Joneses.

There are also impulsive spenders who just want to spend money when they have it, even when there’s no any need for that

Other stay in debt because they are not living within their limits. This happens mostly when you have the desire to spend money even when you don’t have it. So you take a loan to satisfy those desires.

Moreover, people get stuck in debt when they are not mentally well. Depression, uncontrolled anxiety and grief blurs proper decision making. Those suffering from them don’t manage funds well and may take loans impulsively.
