In my opinion, choosing a life partner is one of the most personal decisions you’ll make, and ideally, it should be your choice. While parents often want the best for you and their experience can be valuable, the person you marry is someone you’ll live with every day so your feelings and compatibility matter most. It’s important to respect your parents but also be true to yourself, because a happy marriage comes from mutual understanding and love, not just family decisions.

No, a parent shouldn’t choose a life partner for their child. Choosing a life partner is a deeply personal decision that hinges on individual compatibility, values, and emotional connection things a parent can’t fully assess for their child. Forcing a choice risks resentment, mismatched relationships, or dependency, as it sidesteps the person’s autonomy and ability to grow through their own decisions.

That said, parents can offer guidance or share perspectives, especially in cultures where arranged marriages are common, as long as it’s not coercive. Data shows arranged marriages can have similar success as well.

Your parents may have good intentions, but ultimately, the decision of who to marry should be yours alone.in the end, the decision belongs to you. You have the right to choose who you want to marry, but sometimes, this right can be used wrongly. Make a decision which would satisfy you, but which will not affect negatively your relationship with your parents.

Personally, i don’t think Parents role in choosing your life partner should be given a chance

Your parents can do whatever they want – but it’s up to you to do the choosing of the person with whom you want to spend your life. Accept you want your parents to choose your spouse for you.

Personally i feel parents choosing a partner for their children is neither right nor wrong, it mostly depends on how you view the issue. Parents often choose for their kids cause they want the best for their kids, but one thing they fail to understand is that at the of the day, the kids are the ones spending the rest of their lives with their partners. So while parents can choose, it is way better for the kids to make the choice themselves.
