Incompetent workers always tend to stand as set back’s to collective progress but then even as you aim at being better you must not do so at the expense of a good name
Sometimes it is good to actually give such workers the chance to get better and work on themselves and make them understand the necessity of that and you can take any action as firing when they show no effort towards getting better

Being a manager means you have to make some tough decisions and choices which might not see well with others and I think firing people or dismissing them from work is one of those choices you need to make once in a while.
If you don’t do that, you are leading the pathway that will lead to the fall of your company which I don’t think you would like at all.
Be just but that doesn’t mean you should be unserious and too kind to people
