It can work, but it’s risky. If you take a new loan with a lower interest rate or better repayment terms, that’s called debt consolidation, and it can actually save you money—provided you don’t pile on new debt afterward.

But if you’re borrowing just to avoid default without improving your repayment terms, you’re basically shifting the problem forward while the interest clock keeps ticking. A trader in Abuja once cleared his microfinance loan with another quick loan, only to realize the new lender’s penalties were harsher—he ended up paying almost double in six months.

Before doing it, run the numbers:

    • Is the new interest rate lower?
    • Are there hidden fees or penalties?
    • Can you realistically meet the new payment schedule without borrowing again?

If the math doesn’t clearly save you money and reduce stress, you’re just swapping one headache for another.

While interest rates are usually lower when you’re borrowing multiple loans, the fees you pay could be much higher than what you borrowed.

If you have multiple debts, then a personal loan may do wonders for you. Debt consolidation is where you clear all your dues with a loan and then just focus all your efforts and energy on repaying that one debt only. With all your debts combined into one, you no longer have to track each of your Multiple Loans

If you find yourself facing such a situation, taking a Personal Loan can be your best bet. Consolidated Debt – If you find yourself juggling with a lot of loans or monthly repayments, you can consolidate the entire debt into a single Personal Loan.
