Is it necessary to learn a trade before you start your own?

There are some type of business i have seen in my country that requires special attention to learn, i have thought about starting a little raw food vendor business or a poultry business or clothing business, i am confused as to what to choose, i hope i could make the right choice and not end up puttng money into things that will not bring in returns. Some business do not need much teaching or effort to start, just knowing the basic is ok. Is it necessary to learn a trade before you can start your own?

You can also just get started and learn on the job, if you’re shoot from the hip type of guy, overall it all depends on your personality.

While it’s not an absolute requirement to learn a trade before starting your own business, there are several benefits to gaining experience in a trade or industry before becoming an entrepreneur:

    1. **Skills and Expertise:** Learning a trade equips you with valuable skills and expertise in a specific field. This knowledge can be crucial for running a successful business in that industry, as you’ll understand the nuances, best practices, and potential challenges.

    2. **Market Understanding:** Working in a trade or industry provides you with insights into market trends, customer preferences, and competition. This firsthand knowledge can inform your business strategy and help you make informed decisions.

    3. **Networking:** Building a network of contacts and relationships within your chosen trade or industry can be invaluable. It can lead to partnerships, collaborations, and opportunities that benefit your business.

    4. **Credibility:** Clients and customers often trust businesses run by individuals with experience in the field. Your trade experience can enhance your credibility and reassure potential customers that you know what you’re doing.

    5. **Problem-Solving:** Trade experience can teach you how to solve common problems and handle challenges that arise in the industry. This problem-solving ability is essential for entrepreneurship.

    6. **Financial Preparation:** Learning a trade can provide you with a source of income and financial stability while you plan and launch your own business. This can help you manage the financial risks associated with entrepreneurship.

    7. **Ideas and Innovation:** Working in a trade may inspire new business ideas or innovations within that industry. Your firsthand experience can lead to identifying gaps or opportunities that others may overlook.

That said, not every entrepreneur starts with extensive experience in their chosen field. Some entrepreneurs bring a unique perspective or innovative ideas to an industry without prior experience. What’s crucial is to compensate for any lack of experience by conducting thorough market research, seeking mentorship, and continually learning about your chosen field.

Ultimately, whether or not you need to learn a trade before starting your own business depends on your specific goals, industry, and the resources and support available to you. Gaining experience can be a valuable asset, but it’s not the only path to entrepreneurial success.
