Most loan apps require access to your phone contacts before giving out loans. As you give them access to your contact you have signed away your freedom. So if you don’t want disturbances you need to pay up

You can remove your  number from the loan app. You can Go-to the loan app’s Settings then the Account → Delete Account. Go ahead to  confirm the deletion. Then, clear residual data on your phone: Clear Data & Cache then  Uninstall.

You can  remove your number from loan calls. You can opt out of receiving them  by calling toll-free 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688)

Though you can remove the SIM card from your phone but for me what I did was I used a number that was blocked by MTN to collect a loan on a search they cannot be able to call me because it is always not reachable

Once a loan app has accessed your phone contacts, you can’t “undo” it easily—but you can fight back. Here’s what to do immediately:
    1. Revoke permission from your phone settings
Go to your Settings > Apps > [Loan App Name] > Permissions. Remove access to Contacts, SMS, and Phone. Do this before or immediately after taking any loan.
    2. Report the app to FCCPC
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) now bans loan apps from harassing or calling contacts. File a complaint here: fccpc.gov.ng with proof—screenshots, call logs, messages. They’ve already delisted many abusive apps.
    3. Block and warn your contacts
Tell your family and friends ahead of time if you’ve defaulted. That way, when the harassment starts, they won’t panic or be misled by fake threats like “criminal case” or “court summons.”
    4. Avoid unlicensed loan apps entirely
Most harassment comes from apps like Sokoloan, 9Credit, Speedy Naira, etc. These are not fully approved. Stick to licensed apps like Branch, Carbon, FairMoney, and Palmpay. They rarely harass users.
    Raw Warning:
Don’t assume deleting the app will stop the calls. The data was already backed up when you gave permission. If you’re not ready to pay, don’t borrow. And if you must, use phones with no contacts or a second line.
Protect yourself first. These apps don’t care about your dignity—they care about their money.

Let’s be honest—once you gave that app permission to access your contacts, they already saved the numbers. But here’s how to fight back:

    1. Revoke their access immediately
Go to your phone settings > Apps > tap the loan app > Permissions > turn off access to Contacts, Phone, SMS, and Storage.

    2. Report them to FCCPC
Visit fccpc.gov.ng and file a complaint. Upload your evidence—screenshots of threats or calls to your contacts. FCCPC has already removed many of these harassing apps from Play Store.

    3. Inform your contacts
Tell your people the truth before the app embarrasses you. Many of them use fake legal threats like “court action” or “fraud alert.” Don’t let them catch your people off guard.

    4. Don’t borrow from unlicensed apps
Apps like Speedy Naira, Sokoloan, and NairaPlus are known for blackmail tactics. Use apps like Carbon, FairMoney, or Renmoney—they’re licensed and don’t call your contacts.

Heads up: Deleting the app won’t solve it. If you’ve defaulted, they’ll still try to shame you unless you act fast. If you haven’t borrowed yet, shine your eye and don’t give out contact permission at all.
