How to get a Loan in Nigeria without BVN?

I want to know if its possible to get a loan without BVN (Bank Verification Number). I believe it maybe challenging as most lenders or banks require a BVN for verification and security purposes. Is there any alternative documentation or collateral that may be required to compensate for the lack of a BVN?

Getting a loan in Nigeria without BVN is quite challenging but still possible through these options:

    • Microfinance Banks – Some microfinance banks provide loans without BVN especially for small short-term loans. Require proper documentation.
    • Cooperative Societies – Join an accredited cooperative society that provides loans to members without BVN. Meet tenure and savings requirements.
    • Peer-to-Peer Lending – Platforms like KiaKia connect lenders and borrowers directly so may bypass BVN requirements.
    • Collateral Based Lending – Banks can provide collateral based loans against property, jewelry, shares etc without BVN. Higher interest rates.
    • Salary Based Loans – If employed in a reputed company, some banks provide loans against salary payments without BVN.
    • Friends and Family – Borrowing from friends or family based on mutual trust and understanding avoids BVN requirements.
    • Community/Esusu Groups – Joining a reputed community loan group can get you loans based on your contributions.
    • International Lenders – Some international online lenders and fintech companies may provide loans without BVN.
    • Providing Alternate IDs – Passport, drivers license, national ID card may be accepted in place of BVN by some lenders.

Overall, getting loans without BVN takes more effort but building relationships with lenders and having alternate IDs helps. Ensure proper documentation.

Do you have savings and lending cooperatives in your area? Do you have micro finance companies in your place? Burrowing from micro finance or cooperatives is relatively and you do not need a bank verification number as these companies work as banks and financial institutions on a small scale (they don’t give you big loans, they only offer small business and personal loans). If you have established business and collateral, getting a loan can be easy.
