A budget is one of the main things you need in order to pay off debts. In this post, I want to emphasize the need for you to add the debts in your budget. You don’t need to pay the loan randomly or if there is some money left. No, it should be a conscious well planned decision.

This may require you to cut back on the expenses that are in your budget. Cancel those things that you don’t really need and reduce the amount you use to buy some things, maybe even go for cheaper items. That way, you have enough space to add debt into your budget.

When you want to prepare a realistic budget to overcome debt, it means your budget must be adjusted to your financial condition. When preparing a budget, you can divide your expenses into three groups, the first is paying obligations (debts), the second is the cost of monthly necessities and operational costs and the third is the spending budget for savings and investment. So basically your budget prioritizes your monthly debt repayments. Don’t forget to identify your financial goals. Identify all necessary expenses, calculate all revenues and evaluate budget results.

Creating a realistic budget to overcome debt problems is a crucial step toward achieving financial stability. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a practical budget:

    Gather Financial Information:
Start by collecting all your financial information, including bank statements, bills, pay stubs, and any other relevant documents. You need a clear picture of your income, expenses, and debts.

    List Your Income:
Make a list of all sources of income, including your salary, rental income, side gigs, and any other money you receive regularly. Be sure to use your net income (after taxes and deductions).

    List Your Expenses:
Create a comprehensive list of your monthly expenses. Categorize them as fixed (unchanging) and variable (changing) expenses. Common categories include:

Fixed expenses: Rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance, car payments, minimum debt payments, and subscription services.
Variable expenses: Groceries, dining out, entertainment, transportation, and discretionary spending.
    Identify Discretionary Spending:
Review your variable expenses and identify areas where you can cut back. This might include eating out less, reducing entertainment expenses, or finding more cost-effective transportation options.

Set Up a Debt Repayment Plan:
Prioritize paying off your debts. List your debts, including outstanding balances, interest rates, and minimum monthly payments. Consider using the Debt Snowball or Debt Avalanche method:

Debt Snowball: Pay off the smallest debt first, then roll that payment into the next smallest debt, and so on.
