How much would 17 years old pay for vehicle insurance in California?

I’m searching for a quote on auto insurance for a male driver that is 17 years old and lives in California. I’ve had my license for about a year and a half, and throughout that time I’ve managed to avoid getting into any accidents or receiving tickets. My current vehicle is a Honda Accord from 2008 that has been driven fewer than 100,000 times. Because I am planning to purchase a vehicle in the near future, I am looking at purchasing something that is more recent and hence safer in the event of an accident.

I am aware that purchasing a more recent vehicle will result in an increase in my insurance premium, but I would still like to receive an approximate estimate for how much more it will be. I have been considering purchasing either an Acura RDX or a Honda CR-V. Which one would be less expensive to insure is something I’m not sure about.

In addition, I am aware that the fact that I am becoming older will have an effect on the cost of my insurance. Exist any other elements that could have an impact on my rate that I should be aware of?

Please don’t hesitate to ask whatever you want to know about this subject if you have any queries.

Here are some estimates for what a 17 year old in California might pay for vehicle insurance:

    • Liability coverage: Minimum CA requirements are 15/30/5:
    • $15,000 bodily injury liability per person
    • $30,000 bodily injury liability per accident
    • $5,000 property damage liability

This typically costs $150 – $350 per month for a 17 year old.

    • Comprehensive and collision coverage: With $500 deductibles, this adds about $150 – $200 per month.
    • Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury: Usually costs around $20 per month if adding $30,000/$60,000 limits.
    • Other coverages like medical payments may add another $10 – $20 per month.

So in total, a CA 17 year old with standard coverage could expect to pay:

    • Minimum coverages: $200 – $400 per month
    • More complete coverage: $400 – $600 per month

Costs are higher in major metro areas. Getting quotes from multiple insurers is the best way to estimate specific costs. Maintaining good grades helps lower premiums.

Estimating the cost of vehicle insurance for a 17-year-old in California involves various factors. These include the teenager’s driving history, the type of vehicle they intend to insure, the coverage limits they choose, the location where the vehicle will be primarily driven, and other personal details. On average, a 17-year-old driver in California might anticipate paying anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 annually for insurance coverage. This is a rough estimate, and the actual cost could be higher or lower based on the specific circumstances.
