How does one handle every spending?

There is always one thing or the other that requires we spend. At the moment its more like the bills are way more than the money coming in. I have been trying to create some balance but I have not been able to fully achieve this. How do i plan my spending. I thought about creating a budget for myself but there are so many bills, most of them where not even planned so it seems the idea of having a budget would not be possible.

I’m sure you’re talking about overspending here. In our daily life, we do spend money every day no matter what happens. So talking about overspending is not a new thing. But I’m sure there are some things you can do to avoid overspending.

Why not create your own budget, have your target then stick to it. I know that so many things comes in when we didn’t expect them, in this case you should avoid those things and stick to your budget or target, except it’s a matter of life and death.

First of all, you need to identify necessary spending and unnecessary spending. The rent you pay is necessary spending. Buying a pair of jeans when you already have half a dozen pairs of jeans is unnecessary spending. Once you are able to identify necessary spending and unnecessary spending, you will have to cut all your unnecessary spending. The money you are spending on unnecxessaary items should be used for better purpose, for example saving or investing.

Here are some tips for handling spending properly:

    • Track expenses – Use a budgeting app or spreadsheet to categorize and record all spending, big and small. This creates awareness.
    • Stick to a budget – Develop a monthly budget that allocates money towards needs, savings, and wants. Limit discretionary spending.
    • Use cash for discretionary purchases – Using physical cash for things like entertainment, dining out, etc. keeps recreational spending visible and limited.
    • Avoid impulse purchases – For any non-essential item, wait 24 hours before deciding to purchase it. Don’t make rushed spending decisions.
    • Assess needs vs wants – Differentiate between things you really need vs simply want. Spend on needs first.
    • Pay with credit card responsibly – Use credit cards only if you can pay the bill in full each month to avoid interest and debt troubles.
    • Question each expense – Ask if a purchase truly adds value and aligns with your goals before spending on it.
    • Shop with a list – For groceries and other essential shopping, go with a prepared list so you just get what you intend to.
    • Wait for sales – If possible, be a patient shopper and buy items when they go on sale or you have discount codes.
    • Buy generics – Opt for store brand generics over higher priced name brand items when there’s no significant quality difference.

We should spend as per our earnings and if we are borrowing money to spend then this is a sign that we need to have self-control. We can save money by switching to different brands of products which are not very popular but are good. I am doing this for years now and I am sure I am doing well with this small change in my buying pattern and never buy things without comparing their prices with different stores and look for deals and don’t feel shy to negotiate the prices.

So you should create a real budget and try to stick to it. A budget doesn’t just work or stop at creating it, you would need to stick with it.
