It is true that many children today fail to apologize because they do not understand the seriousness of the word “sorry” or they consider it weak to say it out loud. Parents should be the first role model for their children by apologizing when they make a mistake to show that no one is perfect.
The best approach is to teach children the “Four Steps to Forgiveness” which are: saying a sincere apology, admitting the mistake, asking how to fix the situation, and promising not to do it again. Instead of forcing a child to say “sorry” in anger, help them understand the other person’s feelings and the importance of repairing broken relationships. This builds emotional maturity and genuine respect for the people around them from home to school.
