It is very important indeed to start teaching financial responsibility as early as possible. One way to do this is by making them earn it rather than just always handing it down to them. If they want to buy something like a toy or a video game, tell them to save some of their allowance for it. You can tell them to save some amount then you will give them some to add to their savings to buy what they want. Another thing that also works well is asking them to do some simple house chores and paying them for it.

To teach your child the value of money is to start early. The foundation of financial literacy begins at an early age. Give them an allowance. An allowance is an effective tool for teaching kids about money management. You can as well involve them in financial decisions. Let them kniw what wants and needs are as you lead by example

Encourage your child to save for a toy or game they want. This teaches them the value of money and the satisfaction that comes from reaching a savings goal. You can also use real-life scenarios, like comparison shopping or making a budget for a family trip, to show them how money works in the real world

Set an example with your own money habits. Show them stuff costs money. Show them how opportunity cost works and mostly give them commissions, not allowances.

Most child don’t understand the struggles their parents go through in order to make money so they spent the money they receive from their parents with reckless abandon.

However it is the duty of the parent to educate their children on the importance and benefits of proper financial planning at an early age.

First the parents should make it known to their children that money is not gotten on a bed of roses, you have to really work hard for it.

Secondly they should tell them of dangers and  consequences of being financially irresponsible.

Finally, they should let their children know that the best way to become financially independent is by properly planning of their incomes.

Teaching a child financial responsibility starts with simple money lessons suited to their age. You can introduce the idea of saving by giving them a piggy bank or opening a junior savings account. Show them how to budget their allowance, encouraging them to divide money into spending, saving, and giving. Use real-life examples, like comparing prices at the store, to teach decision-making. Involve them in small financial choices, such as planning for a family outing, so they learn value and trade-offs. As they grow, discuss concepts like delayed gratification, needs vs. wants, and setting goals. Leading by example is crucial—children often mirror how parents manage money. Over time, these habits instill discipline, awareness, and confidence in handling finances.
