You don’t always need formal qualifications to start a business, but having the right knowledge, skills, and mindset is essential. Many successful entrepreneurs began with no degree but learned through experience, research, and mentorship. What truly matters is understanding your market, managing finances, and offering value to customers. However, certain businesses—like health, law, or engineering—require specific certifications for legal and safety reasons. Taking short courses in entrepreneurship, marketing, or accounting can also help you manage your business better. In the end, determination, creativity, and continuous learning matter more than formal qualifications.

Many successful entrepreneurs started with just an idea and the willingness to learn along the way. What matters most is understanding your product, customers, and how to manage money. Of course, taking short courses or learning from others can make things easier, but you don’t need a formal degree to begin passion, consistency, and learning by doing go a long way.

Selling food provision does not require any qualifications or degree.  So it all depends on  what you choose to go into at the end of the day.

There is not actually a legally declared requirements in starting up a business on your own as far as what you intend to market is not against the law or social norms.

Hence no requirement is insisted upon however in the absence of not mandatory requirements there is what we call experience, research, findings and knowledge.

This implies that when you intend to start a business try as much as possible to have even if it a little bit of experience then make it a necessities to make research and findings about the business, how to market it  and to gain relevant customers and to advertise it in such a way that it entice customers and convince them to part ways with their money.

When you want to start a business it is pertinent to look at the skills you have then go for a business that would suit the skills you have. You don’t have to necessarily follow the bandwagon just go for the business you have passion for. A lot of times businesses are sustained through passion that the business owner have for the business and want to see it succeed.

There are no legal requirements to have certain qualifications or credentials to start a business in most countries. However, some types of education and experience can be very helpful:

    – Relevant industry knowledge – Experience working in the industry you want to start a business in will give you insight into customer needs, supply chains, operations, etc.

    – Business education – Courses in business administration, finance, marketing, etc. can teach you core skills needed to manage operations. An MBA is not required but can be useful.

    – Financial knowledge – An understanding of accounting, money management, and financial planning helps manage finances.

    – Sales and marketing skills – The ability to sell products/services and promote the business is key to attracting customers. Marketing training would be beneficial.

    – Leadership – Management courses or prior team leadership experience helps with hiring and leading employees.

    – Legal knowledge – Basic familiarity with contracts, regulations, tax requirements prevents missteps.

    – Technology skills – Knowledge of applicable software, online platforms, social media, etc. boosts efficiency.

You can certainly launch a successful business without formal qualifications. Many entrepreneurs are self-taught and figure it out as they go. But any type of education or prior skills applicable to your business will give you an advantage in understanding how to operate and thrive. Consider your strengths and gaps and seek out resources or training if needed.
