A marketing officer is responsible for promoting a company’s brand, products, or services to drive sales and growth.
In a Nigerian setting, whether you’re working at Dangote Group or a small tech startup in Yaba, these are the common duties expected of a marketing officer:
1. Market Research – Study customer trends, competitors, and pricing.
2. Marketing Campaigns – Plan and run promotions on platforms like Instagram, Facebook Ads, and even radio.
3. Content Creation – Write or oversee ads, blog posts, social media updates, and product descriptions.
4. Sales Support – Work closely with the sales team to generate leads and boost conversions.
5. Brand Management – Maintain consistency in how the brand looks and sounds across all touchpoints.
6. Event & Activation Coordination – Organize trade shows, pop-ups, and product launches.
7. Performance Reporting – Track campaign results using tools like Google Analytics and present them to management.
In Nigeria, many small companies confuse marketing officers with “everything officers.” Know your job boundaries and clarify expectations from day one.
