When investing, both ethics and results deserve consideration, but ultimately I would recommend focusing more on ethics for these reasons:
– It aligns with your values – If you compromise your ethics just for financial gain, it can negatively impact your self-image and principles.
– It promotes positive change – Investing ethically encourages more responsible business practices that can benefit society and the environment.
– It maintains your reputation – Getting exposed for unethical investing could severely damage your reputation and relationships.
– It feels morally right – Sticking to principles of ethical investing simply feels better internally and improves your peace of mind.
– It sets a good example – Investing ethically models that behavior for peers, children and others who look up to you.
– It can still be profitable – Companies with ethical practices can still be financially successful investments in many cases. You may sacrifice some returns but not necessarily.
– Regulations are increasing – Regulators are increasingly punishing unethical behavior that could introduce more risk.
While you may need to pass up certain opportunities, investing ethically and responsibly aligns with your values, promotes positive change, protects your reputation, and still allows building wealth. Some financial gain just isn’t worth moral compromise.
