Ultimately, you should always have as complete a set of information as possible prior to making any decision regarding doing business; however, there will be times when it is impossible to obtain all of the necessary information. If you have enough reasonably accurate data to minimize risk and be in a good position to choose wisely, that is paramount. To reduce expenses while operating a gas station business, it is important to cut down on excess use and improve efficiency. You can reduce waste and improve your efficiency by closely monitoring your fuel inventory to identify and eliminate losses or theft; use energy efficient pumps and lighting to reduce your electric costs; maintain equipment regularly so it remains in good working condition and won’t require costly repairs; buy fuel when priced lower in bulk to increase your profit margin. It is equally as important to train staff on how to issue fuel to customers and properly operate equipment (customer service, POS, etc.) and track daily expenditure amounts vs. how much you have actually spent so you can identify areas in which you are wasting funds.
