For a variety of reasons, people cannot live exclusively off of their social security throughout retirement. Only a fraction of a person’s pre-retirement earnings are replaced by Social Security payments, which may not be enough for many retirees to cover all living expenditures. Furthermore, seniors now rely more on Social Security because traditional defined-benefit pension plans are gradually disappearing and private pensions do not provide cost-of-living adjustments. Financial Readiness: One of the most critical factors in deciding when to retire is whether you have saved enough money to support your desired lifestyle throughout retirement.

Health and longevity: Consider your current health status and family history of longevity. If you are in good health and have a family history of living longer, you may be able to retire earlier.
