At the beginning of the month, make a plan for how you will spend your money that month. Write what you think you will earn and spend. Write down what you spend. At the end of the month, see if you spent what you planned. Use the information to help you plan the next month’s budget. Try a simple budgeting plan. Experts recommend the popular 50/30/20 budget to maximize your money. In it, you spend roughly 50% of your after-tax dollars on necessities, no more than 30% on wants, and at least 20% on savings and debt repayment.

For urgent expenses, short-term loans, which normally last a few weeks to a few years, are appropriate. Medium-sized investments are suitable for loans with a medium period, often a few years.

Long term loans, which can last for years or even decades, are best for important investments like home purchases. To make borrowing manageable and successful, choosing the correct loan term needs taking into account the purpose, payback capacity, and financial goals.

Based on the knowledge I gained in college and my experience in taking out loans from banks, mortgage debt, car loans, etc. So the concept of interest determined by banks, non-bank financial institutions or lenders is as follows:
    1. Fixed interest rate (Flat)
This interest rate does not change until maturity or a predetermined time (3 years – 15 years), debt installments plus interest are always fixed every month which must be paid by the loan taker. Examples are mortgage debt, car or motorbike debt.

    2. Floating interest rates
Floating interest is an interest rate that is determined based on market interest rates, so the nature of this interest rate will always change. Example of mortgage debt for luxury housing. In practice, a combination of fixed and floating interest is often applied, such as for a 5 year tenor (2 years of fixed interest and 3 years of floating interest).

    3. Effective interest rate
The interest rate will decrease as the loan principal decreases, so the interest is calculated on the last loan balance every month after deducting the installments.

    4. Annuity interest rates
The principal installments that must be paid by the borrower at the beginning of the period will be larger until the end of the period, conversely the interest rate will be smaller until the end of the period, but the total installments plus interest that must be paid will always be the same for each month until the end of the term.

The kind of expenses you have determine how much you spend ,that is what you want and need and purchasing them really have a huge effect on the amount of money spent either daily weekly or monthly. Hence their is a need to develop a conscious habit where you rather buy what you need than what you want.
What am implying is the fact that as human we tend to get attracted to lots of flashy and luxurious stuffs, even when those things are not contributing any factor into our daily lives .it would be better to just stop at appreciating but not always purchasing what you want, rather make more effort in restraining yourself on getting just what you need then your expenses can reduce .

Here are 3 key reasons why budgeting your savings is important:

    1. It helps you actually save money. Without a savings budget, it’s easy for spending to creep up and prevent saving. A budget dedicates a portion of income to saving and helps restrain spending.

    2. It keeps your savings on track for goals. A savings budget aligns with financial goals like an emergency fund, down payment, etc. This ensures you’re systematically building funds for priorities.

    3. It balances saving with living. Budgeting keeps saving in check so it doesn’t prevent enjoying life. You want to find an optimal savings rate that still allows discretionary spending.

    4. It creates awareness of savings habits. Tracking a savings budget helps identify patterns, such as leaks in overspending. This knowledge helps improve habits over time.

    5. It enables progress tracking. A savings budget provides metrics to measure monthly or annual savings progress. This keeps you accountable.

    6. It prevents debt. A strong savings budget makes it less likely you’ll have to rely on credit and fall into debt when unexpected expenses come up.

    7. It provides motivation. Achieving monthly or annual savings targets provides a sense of accomplishment which further motivates saving.

In summary, a well-defined savings budget is a foundational tool for reaching your financial goals. It brings focus, accountability, and awareness to ensure you’re not just blindly spending but intentionally saving.

Know your needs from your wants and it would definitely make things a lot easier. Having some investments would also be a good way to save more as well.

But still, I am not so good at working with self discipline to stick with my budget. I still find myself spending outside my limits and using my savings on unnecessary things.

So one thing I need to improve on is self discipline in spending money. I also need to work on improving my debt management. I sometimes take loans for luxury uses and that is not great.
