There are generally only three to five steps that need to happen in order to activate your debit card from almost all banks in today’s society; ATM (check your local bank for ATM locations), bank app (using mobile phone), online banking & via telephone banking (customer service). When activating your debit card using an ATM, you might have to enter and/or create a PIN. Also, some banks will automatically activate your card, as soon as you have completed your first transaction. Always refer to the instruction sheet provided with the card, and never disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN) or One-Time Password (OTP) to anyone, so that your account remains protected against fraud.

One common mistake small business owners make at the beginning is rushing in without proper research and planning, which often leads to money problems. Many also underestimate costs, keep poor records, or mix personal and business finances, causing confusion and bad decisions. Trying to do everything alone and ignoring customer feedback can slow growth, while poor pricing reduces profit. Learning early, planning well, and staying open to advice greatly improve the chances of success.

If your reason for needing UK PayPal is to receive payments from UK clients, you don’t necessarily need a UK PayPal account.

Many UK clients can pay you via:

    • Paga
    • Wise
    • bank transfer (GBP account)
    • card payments through Flutterwave / Paystack
    • crypto (if both parties agree)

This avoids PayPal limitations and reduces stress.

Choosing the best fintech app for managing your finances means picking one that is safe, easy to use, and meets your needs. First, check if the app is regulated or trusted in Nigeria so your money and data are secure. Next, look at the features it offers for example, can you track your spending, save automatically, budget easily, or make payments without stress? Make sure the app has low fees or no hidden charges because high costs can reduce your savings. Also, read reviews from other users to understand their experience with the app. Finally, choose an app that feels easy and comfortable for you to use regularly. In simple terms, pick a secure, affordable, and user-friendly app that helps you stay in control of your money.

Incessant bank charges on Nigerian bank accounts have become a common frustration because many customers don’t clearly understand what each fee represents or why it keeps appearing. Banks charge for things like SMS alerts, card maintenance, transfer fees, stamp duty, and sometimes hidden administrative costs. Over time, these small deductions add up and reduce your savings. The problem feels worse during periods of high inflation because every naira matters. Some banks also apply charges even when customers don’t actively use certain services. To manage this, Nigerians should review their monthly statements, disable unnecessary services, switch to email alerts instead of SMS, and choose banks or fintechs with lower fees. Understanding the charges and monitoring your transactions helps prevent surprises and protects your money from being eaten up by avoidable deductions.
