How can mining crypto coins generate passive income

My question is , how can mining crypto coins generate passive income? Mining crypto coins is another easiest way to generate passive income because its stress free and capital free, some mining can change ones financial story just like the just concluded mining of ice, core and other legitimate coins but it is also important to note that some mining are fake and cant result in money generation.
